NCAA Football 2008 Review
NCAA Football 08 for the Xbox 360 has returned to its old form. Being someone that has played every NCAA Football since 2003, I was very unhappy with the 2007 version for the Xbox 360 due to the leaving out of certain game modes found on Xbox such as Campus Legend mode. However, 08 returns this series to its previous glory. The graphics are excellent and gameplay is a lot of fun whether you are a casual player or a die hard college football fan(GO TERPS!).
New Additions to NCAA Football is Super Sim which allows for you to control simulation throughout a game whether you want to skip playing defense or have to hurry up and finish the game. Also, Super Sim makes Campus Legend much more realistic i nthat you do not play both sides of the ball. You are only on the field when your player is on the field. If he is a HB then you do not play special teams, defense or when your player tires out.
Some things i have been impressed with is the Impact Stick. In my opinion, they have taken another great stride in to making the game much more realistic. With the Impact Stick(RS), you can run over defenders or juke them out of their cleats. However, when you do these moves the ball is more exposed then usual and, if hit by more than one defender, can results in fumbles which makes the games much more realistic, fun, and challenging.
As always there is something left to be desired online simply due to the overburdened EA Servers, but the gameplay is not altered terribly like other games online and it does run fairly smoothly although passing can be hard if lag is occuring.
Another problem is the repetitive and uninformative announcing. However, like the last couple years games form this series, if you have a common lastname the announcers will mention it from time to time during games in Campus Legend Mode.
One last problem is that the race for the Heisman is highly unrealistic. For example, my Campus Legend player brokes every NCAA rushing record there was. He averaged like 250 rush yards and 100 receiving yards and 4 or 5 TDs. However, he only won every RB award, but lost the Heisman although he was first in the running for almost the entire year.
Summary: NCAA Football is very good, but they have simply not taken the time to fix problems that have been there for years such as unrealistic voting, repetitive announcing, and troublesome EA Servers. However, they have fixed the fluidity of the game allowing to run smoother especially with the tweaking of the impact stick and Super Sim.
The Good: Super Sim, Campus Legend Back, Impact Stick, Smooth During Play
The Bad: Same Nagging Problems, Pauses/Freezing in the Game for 3-10 seconds(However, once the play starts it is very Smooth)
Fun 9/10
Storyline N/A (Dynasty/Campus Legend: 8.5/10)
Easy to Play 8/10(Takes Time. Don't Play Heisman Difficulty the First Day)
Overall 8.75/10
